A 29-year-old man was arrested following a high-speed chase through the busy street of Khayelitsha on Tuesday, 15 February.
According to reports, the chase ensued after officers attached to the Harare police station were busy with patrols when they spotted a hijacked vehicle in Steve Biko Street, Endlovini.
Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said the suspect along with two other accomplices then started shooting at the officers who retaliated by returning fire.
“The vehicle came to a standstill after it collided with a concrete wall. Two suspects managed to evade arrest while one suspect was apprehended. Two suspects managed to evade arrest while one suspect was apprehended, “Van Wyk said.

Van Wyk further indicated that a 9mm pistol and a revolver with ammunition with no serial numbers and cellular telephones were found in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, once charged, the suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, possession of a hijacked vehicle, reckless and negligent driving and attack on police.
