In a transaction that has reset the luxury property market in the Western Cape, the historic Stillness Manor in Zwaanswyk has sold for a record-breaking R59.8 million.
The sale, handled by Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty, represents one of the most significant property deals in the area in recent years, highlighting continued international interest in premium Cape real estate.
The sale price of the 14-bedroom Cape Dutch estate stands in stark contrast to the suburb’s average, coming in at nearly three-and-a-half times the R17 million typical for the area over the past year. A report from BusinessTech indicates that the buyer is an international purchaser, underscoring the global appeal of secure, historic properties in the Cape.

The manor represents a piece of Western Cape history, originally forming part of one of the region’s first farms dating back to 1688. The four-acre estate features 10 dwellings with a combined floor size of approximately 1,650 square meters, operating previously as a hotel and spa.
The property’s extensive amenities resemble those of a luxury boutique hotel, including an indoor pool, two outdoor pools, a tennis court, a formal dining room seating 20, a wine cellar, and parking for 22 vehicles. The main manor house features a classic Cape Dutch gable and offers views of the False Bay coastline and Steenberg Golf Estate.
In their market analysis, the realty group noted that Zwaanswyk represents a particularly competitive segment of the property market. They pointed to Lightstone data showing that ‘more than 40% of current owners have been resident for more than 11 years,’ creating a scarcity of available properties.
The group emphasised that buyers are investing in this market more than a property; as they are securing a heritage asset with a deeply rooted history. This transaction, they stated, ‘resets the benchmark for pricing in Zwaanswyk in particular.’
