A grim scene unfolded Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Voortrekker Road and Giel Basson Drive in Parow, where police have established a heavy presence following a fatal shooting.
Reports indicate that Andre Naude, a well-known figure within Cape Town’s criminal circles, was fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
Though rumours of an assassination have begun circulating on social media, law enforcement authorities have not yet confirmed the exact circumstances or motives behind the attack. The details remain unknown, including whether Naude was travelling with bodyguards when the shooting took place.
Andre Naude has long been associated with Cape Town’s underworld, a figure surrounded by controversy and alleged involvement in organised crime networks.
Andre Naude, believed to have been close to slain underworld figure Mark Lifman, spoke openly about a chilling encounter just days before Lifman was murdered. Naude had recalled that while driving on the N1 near Paarl, a vehicle pulled up beside him and the driver pointed a firearm in his direction.
He responded by drawing his own weapon, prompting the suspects to flee. No shots were exchanged, and Naude never reported the incident, calling it inconclusive. Now, with Naude himself gunned down, it appears the cycle of targeted violence has come full circle.
Naude often found himself entangled in volatile disputes, particularly involving control over lucrative nightclub territories. These turf battles, driven by rivalries over security contracts, extortion rackets, and influence within the city’s nightlife scene, frequently erupted into violent confrontations.
Residents in the vicinity are advised to remain vigilant and cooperate with police enquiries while avoiding speculation until official statements are released.
