Earlier this year, Cape Town’s most popular Shisa Nyama Mzoli’s was vandalised and set alight during land protests in February. This news upset thousands of tourists and residents of Gugulethu who frequent the bustling Mzoli’s. It is known as a place that brings people from all spheres of life together.

We’re happy to report that the Mother City’s finest Shisa Nyama, serving up unforgettable braai meat and side dishes, is open for business and back to heaping helpings of flame-grilled fare once again. Since the fire in February 2018, owner Mzoli Ngcawuzele has said that his establishment would rise again and it has.

“I’m a guy who takes whatever life throws at him and just goes on.” Mzoli told DRUM. The story of this establishment is an empowering one of Mzoli Ngcawuzele, who started his business selling offal from his garage, and forged ahead to create a tourist attraction in Cape Town. Mzoli now brings the community of Gugulethu and people outside the township together with a welcoming atmosphere, memorable food and unique flavours – served with love.

Along with various traditional braai meats on offer, visitors to Mzoli’s can bring their own meat and have it braaid Mzoli’s style.
