Cape Town’s skyline is shifting once again, this time with a luxury development aimed at placing the city even deeper into the global high-end travel market.
From chefs and finance executives to marketing specialists and hospitality managers, recruitment has officially begun for The Cape Town Edition, which is the new ultra-luxury hotel and residence development taking shape at the V&A Waterfront ahead of its scheduled October 2026 opening.
As highlighted by BusinessTech, dozens of vacancies have quietly appeared on Marriott’s careers platform in recent weeks, signalling that the waterfront project is entering its final stretch before launch.
The development, situated alongside the newly opened Inter-Continental Table Bay Cape Town and a short walk from Victoria Wharf, forms part of the larger Quay 7 Superyacht Marina precinct, a project designed to attract affluent international travellers, yacht owners, and luxury investors to the Mother City.
For regular visitors to the V&A Waterfront, the construction site has become difficult to miss. Cranes continue to move across the harbour-facing property while finishing work inside the building accelerates.
The Cape Town Edition will mark the first African entry for Marriott International’s Edition Hotels brand, a collection known internationally for combining boutique-style design with five-star hospitality.
The brand already operates in destinations such as Tokyo, London, Miami and New York, placing Cape Town in a select group of international gateway cities tied to luxury tourism and lifestyle travel.
Plans for the hotel first surfaced in 2018, but construction momentum slowed during the pandemic years before regaining pace alongside renewed investment at the waterfront precinct.

Once complete, the hotel will include 142 rooms and suites, a rooftop bar, spa facilities, event spaces, restaurants, a pool deck and six ultra-exclusive private residences overlooking the harbour.
‘We are excited to be developing this architecturally stunning new building, which will mark the launch of Edition Hotels in Africa,’ the V&A Waterfront said.
At the centre of the broader development is the Quay 7 Superyacht Marina, which aims to create dedicated berthing and support facilities for some of the world’s largest private vessels.
According to the V&A Waterfront, superyacht arrivals have steadily increased over the past decade, with dozens of vessels docking in Cape Town during the latest season alone.
V&A Waterfront CEO Graham Wood said the marina expansion responds to growing international demand.
‘Superyacht visits have grown steadily since 2009, and we welcomed 35 vessels in the 2024/25 season alone,’ Wood stated.
‘The Cape Town Edition and Quay 7 Superyacht Marina will allow the super-rich to park their yachts next to their hotel.’
The project also includes a new public promenade along the water’s edge, expanding pedestrian access through the precinct while linking luxury hospitality spaces with public areas already popular among tourists and locals.
