The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has received many reports regarding wind-related incidents over the weekend. On Friday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a warning of strong to gale force-winds for the Mother City over the weekend until Monday.

Among the damages logged, roof damage, electricity disruptions and uprooted trees were reported across the Cape. No deaths or injuries have yet been reported and City Departments are assisting the affected areas.

Storm-related electricity disruptions are being experienced in Pinelands, Bridgetown, Wynberg, Parow, Richmond Estate, Bellville, Seapoint, Strand, Claremont, Heideveld and Three Anchor Bay.

Large trees have been uprooted in Gordon’s Bay, Newlands, Mowbray, Rylands and Bonteheuwel.

Residents are asked to direct non-emergency service requests to the City’s Call Centre on 0860 103 089, and to direct emergency calls to the Public Emergency Communication Centre by dialing 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
