CapeNature has temporarily closed the Fountain Shack in Robberg and the Miaspoort hiking trail in Limietberg, citing critically low water levels and a separate road closure that makes access unsafe.
The closures affect Fountain Shack bookings from 8 to 14 September and the Miaspoort trail from 9 September to 31 October, according to the reserve notice.
CapeNature says the Fountain Shack relies entirely on rainwater harvesting and that its storage tanks are empty. Leaving the reserve unable to supply water on site.

Bitou Municipality has declared Stage 2 drought restrictions across the municipal area after dam levels dropped below the threshold that triggers tougher measures.
The municipality implemented the restrictions from 1 September to reduce the risk of water shortages.
CapeNature has offered practical options for affected visitors. Guests may keep their bookings and collect 1.5 litres of still bottled water per person at the reserve entrance, or request a full refund.
They warned that, because of high demand, rescheduling the Fountain Shack is unlikely before next year.
Visitors should check CapeNature’s reserve pages and municipal notices before travel and bring extra drinking water when visiting drought-affected areas.
