Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon organisers confirmed on Saturday afternoon that one person had died during the race. The only information available at this point is that the deceased was a 35-year-old man from Cape Town.

“As we conclude the 2019 edition of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, we confirm the sad news that a 35-year-old male runner from Cape Town who collapsed in the race today and attempts by paramedics to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Unfortunately he passed away. The deceased runner was participating in his fourth half marathon and an avid runner,” organisers said in statement.

The runner had allegedly experienced extreme discomfort and collapsed on South Cross Drive. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Organisers extended their sincere condolences to his family and friends.
