Jean-Marc Johannes has been hailed as one of the country’s best skateboarders, and will go forth to represent the country for the second round of the Street League Skateboarding (SLS) series in Los Angeles, California.

The 28-year-old, who grew up in Athlone, was invited as the competition’s wild card on July 21, and was the first skater in the world to successfully complete an Ollie jump from one shipping container to the next – a height of three stories.

“This is a big opportunity for me to be included into the event. In skateboarding, it’s considered an honour to receive an invitation to the SLS. I’ve grown up watching events like these and to be selected to be part of this season is a dream come true. It’s the highest level of street skateboarding in the world,” Johannes said to EWN.

Round two of SLS will kick off in Los Angeles on July 24. The first round was hosted in London earlier this year. The SLS is the premier international competitive series in professional skateboarding and showcases an international roster of skating’s elite pros.

Johannes also recently received his second Guinness World Record, last set by skating legend Rob Dyrdek, by doing the most fake heelflips in a minute.
