Lady Luck was by the side of a local man who finally had his persistence pay off after he took home a total of R38-million on 21 September in the Powerball PLUS jackpot.
The anonymous Capetonian winner claimed his prize money just a few days ago and still could not believe that he was lucky enough to win.
“I am still in disbelief as I have never won from playing any of the Lotto games, and my first ever win is the highly sought after jackpot,” he said.
The lucky winner also said that although he had won the money the only person he trusted enough to tell was his dad. No one else in his life is aware that he had been randomly chosen to win the unbelievable jackpot prize.
The 35-year-old bachelor plans to settle his debt with the money, as well as take care of his retired father.
He says he spent an average of R150 a week for the past few weeks on the Lotto and used a principle of positive affirmations each time he bet.
“I told myself that I was going to win each time I placed a bet, but I never thought about winning the jackpot. I went to the same retailer where I had placed my bet two days after the draw to check if my ticket had won anything and to my surprise, I was told to go to Ithuba Offices. I knew at that moment that I had won but I wasn’t sure how much, he said.”
The excited winner says that he is looking forward to traveling and spending time outdoors with his winnings. He also stated that he will continue with his usual 9-5 job as well as playing the Lotto and Powerball.
