Over the past 23 days the dismembered bodies of 34 cats have been found in Manenberg. Yesterday morning, August 6, the community woke up to the discovery of three more mutilated bodies.
“They all bore the “classic signature” of the killer dubbed the “Manenberg Cat Serial Killer” except this time the nature of the injuries were even more horrific than before”, says the Animal Welfare Society of SA.
One of the cats were chopped in half – only the top half could be located.
“This disturbing find took a huge emotional toll on everyone but much worse was to come with the discovery of a butchered pregnant cat lying beside her dead kitten foetus.”
These horrific sights have become an every day occurrence for the community. People are living in fear for their safety and their pets.
“Our investigation in collaboration with the SA Police Service and Community Neighbourhood Watch is ongoing and we have followed up on a number of leads from as far afield as Port Elizabeth.”
“The SAPS case file is filling up with statements from distraught owners who have lost pets to this maniacal killing frenzy that has to stop. The success of the investigation pivots on the continued co-operation of the community who we must commend for being pro-active.”
The R5 000 reward is still available to anyone able to provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s).
