This event is going to be one of the amazing one’s yet as it brings African culture together from varies cities to celebrate African Day, giving our people something to look forward to for the first time in a very long time.

The RISE Africa 2021 Action Festival will be hosting its first annual event with the aim to bring together the different strengths namely, the urban thinkers, doers and enablers of Africa including ICLEI Africa member cities, subnational and local governments, from May 24 to 28.

The Festival of Action specifically focuses on celebrating Africa Day on May 25 with a theme for the occasion known as ‘Next Urban Champions’

“Our cities are the manifestation of our imaginations, relationships and life experiences – we make our cities, and it is up to us to reclaim African urban narratives. RISE Africa offers an opportunity to share ideas and actions towards realising future African cities that are inclusive, resilient, and restorative,” says Kobie Brand, Regional Director of ICLEI Africa and  Deputy Secretary General of ICLEI.

What you need to know:

The Action Festival addresses a series of themes, from climate change and indigenous knowledge systems to collaborative governance and social movements.

The event partners that are joining the festival are, African Centre for Cities, Our Future Cities, South Africa’s National Research Foundation, International Institute for Environment and Development, African Circular Economy Network, Djouman, The Nature of Cities, World Wide Fund for Nature, the South African Cities Network, and more.

In order to create a dynamic and impactful program, RISE Africa is calling for proposals featuring knowledge, diversity, ideas and actions from their unique stories around the world.

These include:

  • Dialogue and performance sessions
  • Action sessions
  • Training
  • Field trips or tours
  • Provocations

All provocations or proposals should be submitted by March 23, 2021.
