In an emotional video posted on Twitter, staff of what is believed to be the Checkers in Bayside Mall, Table View paid tribute to a colleague who passed away.
“Losing one of our own always touches us and it is with great sadness that we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and co-workers of any employee who passed away,” the Shoprite group said.
The colleague who passed away is believed to have died of COVID-19. The store announced temporary closing on April 14 after a staff member tested positive for the virus.
In the video, Checkers staff wearing protective gear hold candles while another staff member is knelt on the floor, speaking.
