The DARG Team responded to an emergency call about a dog that was stuck on a mountain in Hout Bay on Saturday, 11 February 2023, on what could have been Cape Town’s hottest day of the year so far. The team wasted no time rushing to the aid of a very dehydrated and distressed pup.

When they arrived, the owner was with his dog after having run down to fetch water for her. The dog was unable to walk and in grave danger.
Fearing that they may not make it down the mountain in time, Chester, one of the DARG team members, carried the dog on his shoulders, moving quickly in the scorching heat all the way down the mountain.

The dog would not have survived if it were not for the help of Chester, and the rest of the DARG team who worked swiftly to get the dog back down the mountain.
The dog was assisted by Dr Jacquie from the Penzance Vet in the village where she was cooled down and hydrated.
It’s always best to walk your dog in the early morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler to avoid burning their paw pads on the hot ground and increasing their risk of suffering a heat stroke.
