Cape Town’s public swimming pools attract great crowds over the festive period, especially as the rush of the new year approaches. One of the most popular attractions are the Sea Point public pools.

According to City of Cape Town Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason, an 11-year-old boy was sexually assaulted at the Sea Point pools. While the details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the incident took place at the pools’ smoking section and the male suspect disappeared before he could be apprehended.

Dyson added that the child’s mother was called and she reported the matter to police.

Cape Town Etc has made efforts to contact South African Police Services (SAPS), but have yet to receive an answer.
