In the Court of Appeal, Dickason’s legal team filed a ‘notice of appeal against conviction’ on 23 July.
As of yet, the grounds for appeal remain unknown and no date has been set for the court proceedings.
The mother of three was charged with murder, after strangling and smothering both her 6-year-old and her two-year-old twins, in their home in Timaru.
The incident took place in September of 2021, while her husband was out for dinner with co-workers.
Dickason was found guilty by a jury on 16 August 2023.
Her legal team argued that Dickason had been depressed as a result of new stressors in her life. They further contended that her actions on the night of the murder were the result of anger and frustration towards the misbehaviour of her children and ultimately led to her breaking point.
In June, the High Court judge in Christchurch ruled that Laura was to serve her sentence at a mental health unit in the Hillmorton Hospital.
According to News24, Dickason may be moved to a prison at a later stage.
This determination will be left to medical personnel and until then, she will be detained in the hospital as a special patient.
