Citro-Soda recall action is under way after the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) said specific batches of the popular product must be removed from shelves following a safety concern, reports Cape {town} Etc.
SAHPRA said the recall covers Citro-Soda Regular 60g, 120g and 4g x 30 sachets produced at Adcock Ingram’s Clayville facility in Johannesburg.
The regulator said the recall follows the identification of a ‘potential foreign material contamination’ during an inspection at the Clayville factory. SAHPRA classified the recall as Class II Type A and dated it 17 March 2026.
In its notice, SAHPRA said retailers, wholesalers and distribution centres should stop selling any affected batches and return the stock through the supply chain.
Consumers have been asked to take impacted products back to the point of purchase for credit or stock replacement.
A government media advisory said SAHPRA will brief the media on 24 March and outline ‘the reasons for the recall, regulatory decision and guidance to healthcare professionals and the public.’
