Two City of Cape Town employees found themselves in difficulty while boating in a local river yesterday.

The two were reported to have been in a boat on the Black River, which is located in the area of the Berkley Road turnoff on the M5. One was a 20-year old male from Eersteriver, and the second was a 31-year-old employee from Bokmakierie in Athlone.

The 20-year-old tragically drowned when the boat capsized, and the 31-year-old was rushed to hospital after he too nearly drowned.

Meanwhile, a female body that was found floating offshore from Mossel Bay Point last Monday has been identified as that of Liezel Gerber.

According to Gerber’s Facebook page, she was an photographer and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

Police have confirmed that she did not drown, and no foul play is suspected.
