The City of Cape Town (COCT) confirmed it will be shutting down the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant from Monday, 14 March until Friday, 25 March.
According to the COCT, alternative water supply will be rerouted to the affected water supply areas to eliminate the possibility of water supply disruptions.
The City said residents in the higher-lying areas along the mountainside in Gordon’s Bay will experience reduced water pressure during this period.
“This two-week shutdown will allow for maintenance to be conducted on various process units of the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant as per its maintenance schedule.
“This work forms part of the City’s pro-active maintenance programme for its bulk water infrastructure, which will ensure continued water supply to these areas,” the City said.

The City further indicated that careful consideration has now been given to the planning of the work to ensure minimal disruption to consumers in the area.
“Water from the Blackheath, Faure and Helderberg Water Treatment Plants will substitute the water supplied by the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant during the maintenance period,” the City adds.
Meanwhile, no significant water supply disruptions are anticipated to result from this work, however, residents in the higher-lying areas along the mountainside in Gordon’s Bay are advised to use water sparingly over this period to reduce the strain on the water supply system while the scheduled maintenance work is underway.
