As reported by News24: Raelton Kloppers, the husband of slain Wendy Kloppers (48), who was shot dead while sitting in her white BMW sedan at a construction site in Delft, says he is heartbroken.
“For the killers, it was about money, but they have no idea that they have ruined our lives forever,” said Raelton Kloppers.
Raelton Kloppers described his late wife as a woman with a “heart of gold” who was very stylish, and noted that she was strong-willed, and her children meant everything to her.
He added, “It’s absolutely crazy how our lives have been turned upside down in the blink of an eye. My boys and I are taking each day as it comes; they are still in shock.
“My youngest son in the beginning kept asking when is mommy coming home because he thought she’s in hospital.”
Raelton Kloppers recounted the moment he received the devastating news on Thursday, 16 February, just after 11am. Wendy’s brother had called and urged him to rush to their home in Kuils River without delay, saying that “something happened to Wendy”.
Kloppers was gunned down while on duty at the Delft Symphony Way housing project on Thursday, 17 February 2023, in what is now believed to have been a case of mistaken identity.
The perpetrators are part of a “construction mafia”. The attackers mistakenly believed that Kloppers was a woman who had been awarded a construction contract.
An initial reward of R100,000 was offered by the City, which has now been increased to R1 million for information that will lead to the prosecution of the gunmen who fatally shot Wendy Kloppers at the Delft Symphony Way housing project.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said, “We urge those with information to come forward so that we can see justice done for the family. We also continue to call on the South African Police Service to do whatever it takes to hunt down and find the perpetrators responsible for this violence.
“We have a clear message for the public, the Delft community, and the future beneficiaries of this housing project: help us find these thugs and help us protect this housing project so that it is not derailed.”
Cape {town} Etc extends its sincere condolences to Wendy Kloppers’s family and friends during this time.
