Colleagues, family and friends will gather at the Vangate Sport Complex today for the send-off of Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officer Yonke Pakade.
The 26-year-old officer died after a brutal hijacking and attack on 12 October, reports Cape {town} Etc.
A short tribute video shared by @jccpt021 shows his colleagues capturing a solemn moment of respect on the radio.
In the clip an on-air controller says:
‘This is your controller, Inspector… We will now observe a moment of radio silence in memory of Law Enforcement Officer Pakade. […] Who tragically passed away on 12 October 2025. Officer Pakade served with pride, dedication and honour. We pause to remember a respected colleague and friend whose service will never be forgotten. All units, please observe radio silence for one minute starting now.’

The clip sets the tone for LEAP Officer Pakade’s memorial service today.
The provincial safety officials have publicly condemned the attack and offered condolences to the Pakade family as the community prepares to say goodbye.
Three men accused of murdering LEAP officer Yonke Pakade appeared at Athlone Magistrates Court charged with murder and kidnapping a fourth suspect remains at large. The matter returns on 22 October.
