As of today [May 3] the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa have increased to 6783.

The government also confirmed that as of April 30 over 7-million citizens have been screened and from the Community Screening Programme, 72 087 were referred for  further testing. Minister of Health Dr Zwelini Mkhize thanks all these compatriots for their solidarity with the programme and for allowing health care workers into the privacy of their homes.

Unfortunately, a further eight COVID-19 related deaths have been recorded: two from Western Cape, four from the Eastern Cape and two from Gauteng. This brings the total deaths in SA to 131.

We wish to express our condolences to the families of the deceased and salute the health care workers who treated the deceased patients.
