Collins Property, a fourth-generation property development company based in Durban, has commenced construction on what will become Somerset West’s most exclusive lifestyle estate.

Mzuri Estate, with a total contract value of close to R900-million, will incorporate an initial product offering including 68 single-residential homes, 32 townhouses and 136 apartments. It is estimated that residents will be able to take occupation of the first units in May 2021.

Mzuri will be the very first self-sufficient development in the Western Cape, with its own waste water treatment plant to service the estate’s water requirements. This will enable the development to adequately treat its own water for re-use in irrigation as well as sanitary systems, which will significantly reduce the estate’s water consumption.

Having been through a lengthy municipal process, with the key focus on aligning the requirements of local government with the vision of the developer, the development team has confirmed that all approvals for the development are firmly in place. Collins is in a position to move forward with the construction process without further delays.

Leading industry property development firm Lazercor Developments has been appointed as development manager for the estate. Lazercor is a property leader in innovation and sustainable solutions and headed the ground-breaking ceremony in Somerset West. The firm was hand-selected for its experience with similar large residential estate developments, as well as its extensive knowledge of the Somerset West area.

Mzuri Estate will be one of the last sites that offers properties with uncluttered views over False Bay and fantastic value to purchasers in a property market where value is hard to come by. Located in Bizweni Avenue, the estate boasts an all-inclusive lifestyle offering with a firm focus on contemporary, eco-friendly design, innovative technologies, indigenous landscaping, and state-of-the-art connectivity and security.

According to Lazercor’s lead project manager Alister Human, Lazercor adds value for all stakeholders by offering clients an effective and efficient service of the highest quality. “Our comprehensive understanding of strategy and vision coupled with years of industry experience allow Lazercor to successfully manage an entire project such as Mzuri by integrating all the different aspects into a cohesive project plan,” says Human.

Lazercor has commissioned an experienced professional team, as well as dedicated sales and marketing experts, to maximise the potential of the site for prospective buyers. Due to all the regulations governing property development, specialist requirements have to be met in the respective fields involved with any development. Lazercor aims to deliver a development that aligns to the values of all internal stakeholders, prospective investors as well as those of local government.

Somerset West-based contractors DP2 Construction have been appointed to execute the civil engineering works on the property. DP2 commenced construction on Summerhill Road in mid-2018, which unlocks the greater property’s full potential. The scope of work, with a total contract value of R2-3million, includes a significant upgrade to the intersection at Reunion Drive, which is sure to add significant value to the residents of the area. DP2 are ahead of programme and within budget, which will allow the developers to commence with the bulk services of the estate sooner than expected.

Manor Homes, one of the leading residential contractors in the greater Helderberg area, has been appointed to construct the homes and townhouses in the first phase of the development.

The ground-breaking ceremony marked the commencement of the estate show house, boundary walls, technology and security infrastructure, and gatehouses which will create approximately 200 local job opportunities.

The three-bedroom signature show house unit will be completed in September 2019 and will display the high-quality, contemporary lifestyle that future residents can expect. Upon completion of the above, Manor Homes will shift its focus to the internal roads and services of the estate, as well as the estate’s luxury clubhouse, followed shortly after by the top structure for the homes and townhouses.

Mzuri Estate will have freestanding homes, townhouses and apartments available, all with a number of design options and affordability points for each category. The prime location is close to key amenities including top schools, state-of-the-art medical facilities, pristine beaches, diverse retail opportunities, outdoor activities, and award-winning wine estates and restaurants.
