The Gauteng provincial government has put measures in place to better combat coronavirus in weeks to come, including special COVID-19 sites and facilities.

Nasrec Expo Centre has been transformed into a special site for treating and housing coronavirus positive patients. 500 beds have been made available on the site as well as various other facilities needed by patients.

This forms part of the province’s efforts to tackle the virus head-on and prepare for all possibilities.

Existing hospitals in Gauteng have also been cleared and declared COVID-19 facilities, 555 standard beds and 308 ICU beds have been made available.

Until very recently, Gauteng was the epicentre of the virus with the most number of confirmed cases in the country. It has since been overtaken by the Western Cape, now leading in both deaths and confirmed cases.
