A video of Western Cape locals seen partaking in a “social distancing braai” has caused a stir across the nation as the residents were seen blatantly disregarding the nationwide lockdown.

Over the first weekend of the South Africa’s lockdown, residents, reportedly from George in the Western Cape, were seen having a braai with other members of the community.

A video of the ‘festivities’ shared to social media inspired outrage among other South Africans at the clear disregard for the lockdown rules, just days after the President’s address.

While most South Africans responded in outrage others felt the residents were within their rights to have a distanced braai with neighbours, with many saying it was a good way of dealing with the lockdown.
