If you have had your heart set on European summers and the cobbled streets of Lisbon, then you may be in luck.
As tourists flock to their favourite nations following two years of travel bans, Portugal appears to be sitting with a bit of a headache. According to official figures from the European nation, the tourism sector has a shortfall of between 40 000 to 50 000 and they’re looking beyond their shores for workers.
However, you will need to speak Portuguese. Sound like you? According to IOL, the Portuguese government has set up protocols to aid businesses in their recruitment process and they’re looking at Africa.
Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) such as Angola and Cape Verde are attractive options with the most in-demand jobs being in the tourism sector, communication (call centre), IT jobs and healthcare workers.
While getting more workers from overseas appears to be a solution, many employees and workers’ representatives within the country have stated that the lack of manpower cannot be replaced with low wages, as per Africa News.
In light of this, if you’re eager to look for greener pastures outside of South Africa, make sure that you double and triple-check before signing anything.
