Counselling services have been made available to pupils at a school in Cape Town’s southern suburbs after two men were gunned down shortly after escorting a student to their matric ball at Barron’s Estate.

As reported by News24, the victims were gunned down in Phillipi on Friday evening, and were aged 34 and 42-years-old respectively.

“It is alleged that the deceased came to the event to drop an unknown learner. As they left the venue they were shot at by an unknown male who fired several shots at the deceased’s vehicle. The two males died on the scene,”police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said.

He added that police were not ruling out any motives. “Detectives are investigating all possibilities. Currently the motive is the subject of the police investigation,” van Wyk said.

A video of the incident has been making the rounds on social media, and shows one of the victims slumped in the driver’s seat of a Volkswagen Golf-R. Bullet holes are clearly visible in the video.

News24 also reported that the Manenberg gangwatch group alleged that one of the victims had ousted a corrupt cop for stealing money from his home during a raid in November.
