The Hawks have arrested a couple in Melkbosstrand today, 31 October, on charges of rape and human trafficking, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The arrest was carried out by a multi-disciplinary team that consisted of the Western Cape Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, SAPS K9 Unit, Melkbosstrand SAPS, Department of Social Development and Department of Health.

Earlier this month, the Hawks were alerted about a victim of trafficking who had escaped from her traffickers, who are aged 46 and 38 respectively.
An investigation that was conducted revealed that the victim was ‘offered an employment contract’ to work for a couple overseas, but subsequently, after her arrival, she was allegedly raped and sexually exploited by her employers, according to a press statement issued by the SAPS.
The investigation involved various role players, such as government departments and non-governmental organisations.
The suspects’ address was identified in Melkbosstrand, with a search being conducted on the premises. This resulted in the two suspected traffickers being arrested.
The couple’s two children were removed from their care and placed in the care of social workers from the Department of Social Development. Both children will be taken for medical examination.
The suspects will make their first appearance in the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Friday, 1 November.
