One couple on a date got more than they bargained for at the Table Mountain Cableway. Unbeknownst to them, Pearl Shoba and Muzi Sibanyoni were the 29 millionth visitor to the iconic landmark.

While making their way to the entrance on Monday, December 23, the couple was pulled aside by staff telling them there was a problem with their tickets. But just before the confused couple could do anything, they were suddenly surrounded by cheering staff members, got handed a certificate, flowers, balloons, a picnic basket and were even spoiled with a cable car all to themselves.

“We feel like celebrities,” Pearl told News24. The couple is from Durban and holidaying in Cape Town. What a lovely surprise and a great addition to the festive atmosphere in the days leading up to Christmas.

It has been a big year for the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company as they also celebrated their 90th birthday.
