The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has also noted an increase in the seven-day moving average in new COVID-19 cases in Gauteng. According to the NICD, the peak has been detected in Tshwane among those who are aged between 10 and 29 over the past week.
NICD’s Acting Executive Director, Professor Adrian Puren said that they will continue to monitor these trends to see if these increases persist.
“Localised increases in case numbers or clusters are not unexpected, however, it is hard to say whether the increases indicate the start of a widespread resurgence,” Puren said.
In the meantime, the Western Cape Department of Health has reached another milestone on Tuesday, November 23 after surpassing the 4 million COVID-19 vaccine mark in the province. According to the provincial Department of Health, 4 005 802 COVID-19 jabs were administered to 2 433 085 people.
