The Western Cape has 2535 active Covid-19 infections, with a total of 288 951 people having been infected with COVID-19 to date and 274 731 recoveries, as of 1 pm on May 12. A total of 79 018 vaccines has been received to date as part of the Sisonke trial have been administered on May 11.

Here is a breakdown of the province’s COVID-19 figures:
- Total confirmed number of people ever infected with Covid-19 in WC 288 951
- Total recoveries 274 731
- Vaccines administered 79 018
- Total deaths 11 685
- Total active cases (currently infected patients) 2535
- Tests conducted 1 567 065
- Hospitalisations 760, of which 155 are in ICU or high care
The Western Cape has recorded 12 additional deaths since the last update on Tuesday, May 11, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 11 685.
Premier Alan Winde, has also expressed his gratitude towards the frontline workers after the world celebrated International nurses’ day on Wednesday, May 12.” I want to sincerely thank the nurses and other healthcare professionals in the Western Cape for their herculean efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. The great Florence Nightingale who I am certain would be very proud of the professionalism, fortitude and bravery that this province’s nurses have shown during the pandemic. You are our ladies, and gentlemen, with the lamp,” Winde said.
Winde also joined the Muslim community at Three Anchor Bay as they observe the sighting of the moon which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadaan. However, the moon wasn’t sighted and the holy day will now be celebrated on Friday, May 14.
