South Africa’s Health Department has indicated that the latest data shows that there were no indications that further COVID-19 lockdown restrictions would be necessary.
According to the health department although there are concerns regarding the fourth wave of COVID-19 infections preparations are already in place. EWN reports that the department has experts who have been assigned to track various situations, like identifying the public’s behaviour, vaccinations and also a possible new variant.

The Health Department’s acting Director-General Nicholas Crisp says they are currently collaborating with other departments in the private sector as well as with business entities to get the economy up and running in order to avoid further lockdown restrictions.
“We are not in a hurry to introduce any further restrictions. There are no indications at the moment that this will be necessary or even valuable to implement any form of restrictions right now,” Crisp was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases identified in SA is 2 923 751 with 358 new cases reported. 24 deaths have also been reported bringing the total to 89 319 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 2 817 764 with a recovery rate of 96,4%.
