A 19-year-old student from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has died following a fatal accident in District Six, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to reports, the student was allegedly struck by a vehicle on the corner of Tennant and Hanover Streets on Tuesday, 7 April. Emergency services responded to the scene, but the young woman was declared dead shortly after the collision.
South African Police Service (SAPS) has since opened a culpable homicide case. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with no arrests made at this stage.

CPUT spokesperson Lauren Kansley confirmed that the deceased was a first-year student based at the District Six campus. The university has been in contact with her family, who are not from the Western Cape, and is providing support through residence staff and university structures.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the campus community, raising concerns about pedestrian safety in and around student areas. Police have urged anyone with information about the crash to come forward as investigations continue.
This latest fatality adds to growing concerns over road safety in District Six, an area frequently used by students commuting between residences and campus facilities.
