In a significant development, Crime Intelligence boss Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, who faces corruption charges alongside six senior colleagues, has reportedly been cleared by an internal South African Police Service (SAPS) investigation.
This revelation emerged as Khumalo and three co-accused applied in the Pretoria District Court on Friday to have their bail conditions relaxed.
The case, which has been postponed to 8 September for further disclosure, centers on the alleged irregular employment of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele.

As initially reported by News24, the accused are charged with flouting due process by appointing Mokwele, who was not a police officer and had no skills or experience in policing or law enforcement, to a senior position in the technical support services department.
The state contends that the group bypassed critical vetting processes within the division responsible for handling sensitive and confidential information.
All accused were granted bail in June, ranging from R10 000 to R20 000.
Khumalo’s counsel, Advocate Abe Loubser, read an affidavit into the court record stating that an internal investigation had now exonerated him. The State is opposing the application to relax the bail conditions.
The matter will proceed in the regional court, with all parties expected to return to the Pretoria District Court on the postponed date in September.
