A young mother from Bonteheuwel in Cape Town was gunned down while crossing a street with her 5-year-old child on Sunday, December 12.
According to reports, the mother was caught in a crossfire between two rival gangs in Citrus Street. Bonteheuwel ward councillor, Angus McKenzie, took to Facebook to extend his condolences by saying: “My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Nicky who, this morning, are coming to grips with what has happened.
“I want to, despite the sadness of this situation as Nicky was known to me, applaud the amazing people of Bonteheuwel who, throughout the night, were giving us relevant and credible information on the culprits of this unnecessary crime,” the post read.

McKenzie told Cape{town}etc that residents have been very supportive by giving information that Law enforcement has acted on in order to make an arrest.
“This information is being processed and being followed by our Law Enforcement agencies in the area. Seeing the amount of information come through is hugely motivating during this time,” McKenzie said.
McKenzie went on to reassure the young mother’s family and friends that no stone will be left unturned, indicating that the pressure being placed on gangsters in Bonteheuwel is relentless and will continue.
