On Friday, a DA Councillor in Cape Town was arrested on a charge of rape. The incident allegedly took place after the woman approached the Councillor for a job.

According to News24, the man’s identity is unknown and was withheld on legal advice. The Councillor may not be identified publicly until his formally charged.
Earlier this week, the Western Cape police confirmed the case was being investigated by the Nyanga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit after the complainant laid the charge on Tuesday,11 October 2022.
On Thursday, two days after the charges was made, the Councillor claimed that he was aware of a case against him, reports News24.
However, he told News24 that he knew a letter had been sent to the Speaker of the City of Cape Town. The Councillor knows the identity of the complainant.
On Friday afternoon, spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the 56-year-old man was arrested. He is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 October 2022.
