The past week’s cold weather may have been a downer for some, but they’ve done wonders for the province’s dam levels. Cape Town’s dams are almost completely full, with a current reading of 95.6%.
Dams increased by 4.9% in the last week, raising levels to 95.6%. The province’s fullest dams are Steenbras Lower at 101%, Steenbras Upper at 100.8% and Berg River at 100.7%. All of the other major dams are over 92% capacity, and many of the minor dams are also way over capacity.
This week’s reading is a far cry from previous years. This time last year, dams were 81.7% full and in 2018 they recorded a low 67.9%. Numbers have almost tripled since this time in 2017, when dam levels were at a dismal 35.3% at the height of the water crisis.
