A TikTok video posted this past week has sparked widespread speculation after a dead orca was discovered washed up on the shores of Yzerfontein, a coastal town located north of Cape Town, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The video quickly went viral, with many viewers wondering if the deceased orca could be one of the notorious killer whales known as Port or Starboard. These two orcas have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their unusual hunting behaviour along the South African coastline.

The Port and Starboard orcas, named for the sides of a ship, have been frequently spotted hunting various species of sharks off the coast, from Namibia to Gqeberha. Their presence has been noted as unusual because of their specialised hunting techniques, which involve targeting sharks, a behaviour not commonly observed among orca pods in this region. Both orcas have been spotted frequently in the waters of False Bay, where they have been observed hunting near the shorelines late at night.
The discovery of the dead orca in Yzerfontein has added fuel to the ongoing mystery surrounding these powerful predators. While some locals have speculated that the deceased orca could be one of the infamous duo, there has been no confirmation as to whether it is indeed Port or Starboard.
