Western Cape residents have only one day left to ensure that they get counted in the census 2022.
According to the Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, on Friday, May 27, Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) had reached a milestone of having counted 80% of households in the province. Winde urged those who have not yet been counted to urgently do so.
The province had been lagging behind with the census counting forcing Stats SA to extend the deadline for the province to May 31 after it was again, extended to May 14.
Winde stated: “ While this milestone is welcomed, we are not yet out of the woods, and we are still lagging well behind the national average of persons which stands at approximately 90%,” he said.
He added that the more accurate the count, the better the budget allocation our province gets. “This will ensure that we can continue to deliver and improve on key services provided in education and healthcare,” he said.
Of those counted by StatsSA by Friday 27:
- 72% were counted by field officers;
- 8% were counted online;
- 12% of field counting remains in progress;
- 3% of online counting remains in progress; and
- 6% are outstanding.
Statistician-General, Risenga Malulek made a final call to all residents of the province who have not to make use of this last opportunity to complete the census questionnaire. He stated that no further extensions past this date will be possible without compromising Census quality assurance and analysis activities.
