South African citizens who are vaccinated will soon be provided with a vaccination certificate as secure and verifiable proof of vaccination.
According to the Department of Health, citizens can use the certificate to facilitate travel, gain access to establishments and gatherings, and other forms of activity where proof of their vaccination status are required.
President Cyril Ramaphosa also mentioned that the streamlining and standardising proof of vaccination will also contribute towards lowering the COVID-19 numbers when it comes to international travel restrictions, IOL reports.

“Our approach is informed by World Health Organization guidelines and is in line with international best practice. Getting vaccinated is also about preventing new and more dangerous variants from emerging,” Ramaphosa was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde reiterated that people aged 50 and over as well as those with comorbidities should get their jabs as data indicates that they are at high risk of hospitalisation, requiring intensive care and death.
The Western Cape reported 5790 active COVID-19 infections, 519 162 confirmed cases and 493 580 recoveries, as of Thursday, September 30.
