The rugby union club is leveraging its platform to encourage fans and the community to become donors, making a significant impact on the fight against blood cancer.
Palesa Mokomele, DKMS Africa’s head of community engagement and communications, says this initiative marks a positive shift in the organisation’s growth.

‘It is our hope that through the DHL Stormers taking charge and supporting our cause, more people will be moved to register to become stem cell donors and thus positively impact the number of blood cancer patients’ lives we can potentially save through transplant.’
DHL Stormers head of player affairs, Duncan Cruickshank, emphasised the initiative’s importance, ‘We are more than just a sports team; we are part of this community. Blood cancers and disorders touch the lives of so many, and it’s crucial that we use our platform to support those battling these illnesses. We hope our voice will inspire others to step up and help.’

The club’s involvement has already ignited conversations among fans, with players leading by example.
DHL Stormers player and DKMS Africa ambassador, Seabelo Senatla shared his thoughts: ‘We’ve always had the support of our fans, and now it’s our turn to support a cause that can save lives. Being able to make a lifesaving difference is something truly special.’
The club’s commitment to this cause highlights the powerful role sports organisations can play in raising awareness and driving meaningful change in communities. By rallying behind blood cancer awareness, they are not just scoring points on the field but also in the hearts of those affected.
