Residents have previously observed temporary discolouration after the system was recommissioned as part of preventive bulk water network maintenance.
Following continuing water monitoring, today’s results demonstrate that the impacted areas’ tap water is safe to drink and fulfils SANS241 health standards.
Strand, Khayelitsha, Grassy Park, Lansdowne, Belthorn Estate, Lentegeur, Lotus River, Claremont, Pelikan Park, Portland, Philippi, Crawford, Macassar, Ikwezi Park, and Primrose Park were among the central and eastern areas affected on October 17, 2024.
Initially, homeowners were instructed to boil their water before drinking if it appeared discoloured. This no longer applies.
Between yesterday and today, locals reported that water in various spots had cleared.
