Bully’s rescuer sustained several bites from a ‘frenzied pack of unsterilised male dogs’ that closed in on her scent, as well as the general commotion.
At the first chance, the rescuer grabbed Bully and ran to the safety of an enclosed backyard.
He immediately called the Animal Welfare Society of SA for help and support, with trainee inspector Sivuyile Kilwa arriving first on the scene and who was ‘familiar with the area’.
Kilwa located the injured dog, assessed her condition and applied emergency first-aid before rushing her to the Animal Welfare Society hospital.
Bully was met by an ‘expectant team’ who treating her injuries before spaying her, with the consent of her owner.
The owner claimed to be ignorant of ‘the consequences of her coming into season’, as well as being unaware of who was responsible for Bully’s abuse.
Bully will be reunited with her owner, who has ‘raised the height of his boundary wall’ and built her a new kennel.
‘He wants us to educate other pet owners in the community about the benefits of pet sterilisation as he fears there is a growing level of intolerance towards dogs that stray and are allowed to breed uncontrollably,’ the Facebook post stated.
