Donald Trump has secured the presidency once again, becoming the 47th president of the United States.
His victory marks an extraordinary political resurrection after a tumultuous period that included his refusal to concede the 2020 election, his role in inciting the Capitol riot, multiple felony convictions and surviving two assassination attempts, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Trump declared himself the victor in the US presidential election during a jubilant speech to supporters in Florida, even as ballots are still being tallied in crucial battleground states.
Speaking from West Palm Beach, Trump addressed the crowd with enthusiasm, remarking, ‘Look at what’s happening — can you believe this?’ He then expressed his gratitude, saying, ‘I want to thank the American people for the incredible honour of being chosen as your 47th president. I will fight for you, your family, and your future, every single day with every breath I have.’
Trump referred to his victory as ‘a magnificent win for the American people,’ also asserting that he had secured the popular vote — a claim he did not achieve in his previous presidential campaigns in 2016 and 2020. ‘Winning the popular vote feels great — it’s a wave of love,’ he said.
The 78-year-old former president promised that his administration would usher in what he called ‘the golden age of America.’ Trump has claimed victories in key swing states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, and is currently leading in several other states, which has significantly diminished the chances of Vice President Kamala Harris securing a win.
According to NBC, Trump is now only four electoral votes away from a projected victory, as the race draws closer to a conclusion. While the Republican Party’s control of the Senate has been confirmed, the balance of power in the House of Representatives remains uncertain.
Trump spoke to his supporters about overcoming tremendous challenges, declaring, ‘We’ve overcome obstacles no one thought possible.’ He was joined on stage by family members, including his wife Melania and children, and he emphasised his commitment to healing the nation, saying, ‘Our country needs help, and it needs it badly.’
Trump also alluded to an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier in the year, suggesting that ‘many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason — to save our country and restore America to greatness. Together, we’ll accomplish that mission.’
As Trump celebrated, Vice President Harris had yet to address her supporters. Her campaign chair confirmed she would not speak that night but would appear the following day. Initially scheduled to speak at her alma mater, Howard University, after polls closed, Harris’s campaign appeared to shift to a more cautious tone as vote totals slowly came in.
Cedric Richmond, co-chair of the Harris campaign, addressed the crowd at Howard, telling them, ‘We will continue to count every vote, ensuring every voice is heard. You won’t hear from the vice president tonight, but she’ll be back tomorrow.’
Harris had been hoping to make history by becoming the first woman, first Black woman, and first South Asian American to ascend to the presidency if elected.
