The City of Cape Town has asked the public to assist the hundreds of people that have been displaced following a devastating fire that swept through an informal settlement in Langa.
According to the City’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, the fire reportedly broke out just after 6 pm. Carelse said the cause of the fire remains unclear with no injuries or deaths being reported.
Meanwhile, members of the public can donate non-perishable items, disposable nappies, baby food, blankets and sanitary items.
The City’s Disaster Coordinating Team has also identified the following drop off points for donations for persons affected by the Langa fire:
- The Urban-Rural Development (083 521 0328), City of Cape Town Housing Department, Cnr Langalibalele Drive and Lerotholi Avenue, Langa.
- Mustadafin Foundation (076 422 1667), corner of Heide and Antelope Court, Bridgetown.
