Some people were thrilled to learn of a ‘Free Cadbury Chocolate Basket’ that promised chocolatey delights from the beloved chocolatier for free. However, it has recently been debunked as a scam, after Cadbury has urged people not to go down this rabbit hole.
The ‘treat’ of news began circulating on social media and was widely shared on WhatsApp and Facebook. A link accompanied the post selling dreams of ‘5000 gifts for you’, however, it was found to be a phishing scam where identity theft was at stake once people filled in their details, as Mirror reports.
Irish chocolate lovers were a particular target, but given the nature of social media’s global nature, the link ‘too good to be true’ has likely broken its way out of Europe.
Multiple social media users along with Cadbury have warned people about the links, with some other fake Cadbury competitions also being exposed as per Daily Star, including a Fakebook page called Cadbury AU.
