As the festive season draws to a close and planning begins for the next holiday season, we’ve provided simple and efficient hacks to allow for extended vacations.
The norm for workers, is to receive approximately 20 days of annual leave as well as relevant public holidays. Planning leave around these public holidays is an efficient way to maximise your time off in 2025.
In 2025, South Africans will have approximately 12 public holidays throughout the year, as confirmed by the South African Government. With meticulous planning, workers may be able to stretch 20 days of leave into 47 days off in entirety by taking advantage of these public holidays.
Firstly, should employees take a single day of leave on Monday, 24 March, this could ultimately result in a rejuvenating four-day weekend. This is because Friday, 21 March, is a public holiday so taking leave on the relevant day entitles workers to a makeshift long-weekend.
In addition, if workers were to take a total of 4 days leave during the Easter holiday period, this could result in an 11-day vacation. This is because Friday, 18 April as well as Monday, 21 April, are both public holidays. If workers take leave from 22 April until 25 April, this results in a whopping 11 days off.
Workers can also score a total of 6 days off in June by using a mere 3 days of leave. Monday, 16 June is Youth Day and as such, if workers were to take 3 days of leave namely 12 June, 13 June and 17 June, this would total in 6 days off, making for the perfect mid-year reset.
Heritage Day this year falls on Wednesday, 24 September. By taking 5 days of leave from the 17 September until the 23 September, this totals 8 days off ahead of the festive season.
Lastly, 25 December and 26 December are public holidays. As such, by taking 7 days of leave from Monday, 15 December until Wednesday 24 December, workers can score 16 off days, as reported by BusinessTech.
