Two males were detained by Rangers from the Northern Section of the Table Mountain National Park(TMNP) on Tuesday, October 6 for stripping the bark from trees. The arrest comes after rangers were conducting a night patrol at Newlands Forest as part of their ongoing operation to fight against bark stripping.
The suspects were then handed over to the Rondebosch Police Station where a case was opened against them. In the meantime, the TMNP has urged members of the public to report bark stripping activities to the emergency number 086 110 6417 or send an email at [email protected] with the GPS location or description of where bark stripping was located.

Meanwhile, CapeNature has announced that the Algeria campsite will be closed from October 18, 2021 – March 31, 2022, in the interest of health and safety compliance. The decision comes after necessary infrastructure improvements will take priority where the current low water bridge is concerned, which is the only access point that leads to the campsite. However, the camp is set to reopen in April 2022 where visitors can look forward to a newly renovated and improved campsite, offering an even better camping experience for family and friends.
