Edna has been replaced as Weller, Chang and Spence have secured sponsorship from Ford South Africa.
The news broke after they posted an Instagram story stating, ‘Excited to announce that we are partnering with Ford South Africa during our time in South Africa.’
The trio acknowledged Edna’s role in their journey from London to Cape Town, praising her for the incredible job but noting that she now needs a rest.
‘Edna has got us all the way from London to Cape Town. She did an amazing job getting us here, but she’s tired now and needs a rest.’
While Edna won’t be exploring much of the Mother City for now, the three friends from London are sure to enjoy their stay in the Cape.
Three friends successfully reached Cape Town on Monday following an overland journey from the United Kingdom lasting more than three months.

James Weller, Karen Chang and James Spence set out from London on 13 March with the goal of reaching South Africa; they achieved their dream on 24 June.
Throughout their adventure, the trio documented their experiences on social media, amassing thousands of followers from South Africa to Britain.

Sharing the task of chronicling their expedition, they encountered a variety of challenges — navigating rough roads, negotiating for safety, camping in open fields, repairing Edna’s chassis and managing air conditioning issues in Africa’s hottest regions.
In an Instagram update, they mentioned being two weeks behind on their vlog postings, meaning supporters anticipating their arrival in Cape Town would need to wait another 14 days.
However, residents of Cape Town can now anticipate sightings of them around the city.

Over the course of their 103-day journey, they covered a total distance of 16 779 kilometres.
Despite their Toyota Hilux, affectionately named Edna, ‘snapping in half’ during their journey, it has successfully made it to Cape Town and will undoubtedly be ferrying Weller, Chang and Spence around the Mother City.
