A Cape Town council meeting descended into chaos on Wednesday when EFF councillor Mzubanzi Dambuza alleged he was choked unconscious by a security official after refusing to leave the chamber, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The incident occurred during Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis’ presentation of the City’s R9.5 billion infrastructure budget and was captured on video by GOOD Party councillor Roscoe Palm.
According to EWN, Dambuza claims the altercation began when Speaker Felicity Purchase ordered him to leave following disruptions from DA councillors.
‘One of the officers started choking me from behind… I was under the table holding onto one of the poles,’ Dambuza recounted, adding he has since opened a criminal case.
